REVIEW: COASTES

In the tropics, the Sun is rarely absent from our skies. Embrace it! Soak in all its goodness with some savoury bites and refreshing cocktails. Summer is here, celebrate the Sun, a tropical house filled with delicious dishes and beverages. One can argue Coastes is the perfect spot to bring some company to chill by the beach.

Located along the notoriously beautiful Siloso Beach. A stone's throw away from Sentosa's Wings of Time.

Location: 50 Siloso Beach Walk, 01-06, Singapore 099000

Opening Hours: 0900 to 2130, Mon to Thu. 0900 to 2230, Fri, Sat & Sun.

The setting is rustic. with an almost surreal charm to it.

You can pick your seats indoors; to avoid the tropical heat, or outdoors - offering unparalleled views of the sandy beachfront. Coastes even has their own private beach where their customers can use and dip themselves into the sea at any time during their stay. And of course, showers are available.

Price Ratings: $$$

Expected damage: ~$50 per pax

At a premiere location, where coke bottles go at $5 in vending machines, we just can't expect to find a bargain. There are occasional promotions for Sentosa Islanders that may alleviate the hefty costs.

Here's what we ordered:

1. Ayam Panggang Burger | $16

This twist on a chicken burger is one to look out for. A whole chicken thigh roasted Indonesian style topped with a tangy sauce that gives a kick to the palates. Instead of a slaw, it was a blend of Acar Timun, a delicate contrast of sweetness of this burger. A fascinating fusion.

2. Slipper Lobster Penne | $32

A whole tail of this crustacean is tossed in with the penne and mixed vigorously in a creamy pesto. What made every penne worth was that each was loaded with the thick pesto, making each bite a delectable bomb in the mouth. And we all know how good a whole tail of lobster is.

3. Crab & Scallop Risotto | $26

If you like seafood infused food, this one's for you. Chunks of crab meat and scallops decorated all over, making sure you get all of the flavours with every scoop. Generously topped with parmesan, giving this dish a thicker, saline taste. It'll be sure to go well with the shellfishes

4. Calamari Rings | $14

Unpretentious, but do not underestimate this side, there is no need to for sauces to go with. The batter, well seasoned, and the squid, firm and bouncy. They'd still provide a tub of tartar, just in case.

5. Chilli Crab Dip | $20

Singapore's national dish? Here's a modern take on it. Perfectly crisp soft shells served with fried mantous and a big bowl of Chilli Crab sauce that is stacked with chunky crabs. Worthy to be presented as a national dish.

6. Blue Hawaii Cocktail | $17

We all love to rum on a beach, as it is exhilarating with its sweet and refreshing notes - the cocktail that is. Bikinis, swimmer shorts or just plain Jane, this cocktail can compliment anyone (18+) where there is sand. Also perfect for the Instagram feed.

Taste Ratings: 4.5/5

Food, beverage and ambience, all were a perfect medley.

For a chill day out or looking for a scenic date to impress, Coastes is highly recommended in our list of places. Pop open a bottle of Kronenbourg 1664, catch the sunset while at it, everything had been laid out for you.
